The Village of Stanfield

The Parish of Stanfield lies in mid Norfolk and comprises mainly small farms. The Village is very rural with the Church of St Margarets as the only public meeting place in the village. This is used for our parish council meetings and other village functions. Notable functions and get-togethers include the tractor road run, village picnic, Harvest lunch and scare crow competition, horticultural working day, and coffee mornings.

St Margaret's Church

The most interesting feature of this  church is that it is predominantly Early English Period throughout and it is typical of that period as it has continuous walls for both nave and chancel.  It is possible to detect that the nave, chancel and tower were built in that order, but the difference in their dates is only very slight.  The first village was around the church, but in the middle ages it moved westwards towards a medieval green at the far end of the present village.  The Manor House was to the S.E. of the church and parts of its moat still survive.  Stanfield, spelt Stanfelda in Domesday, means 'stoney field'.

Stanfield Parish Council

The Parish Council is  made up of 5 Councillors who represent the village on various matters.  It is the third tier of local government, after Norfolk County Council and Breckland District Council.

The parish council meets every two months, usually in  January, March, May, July, September and November.  The meeting usually takes place in the Church on the second Monday of the month at 7.30 p.m.  The Public is very welcome to attend the meetings. The Public always have an opportunity to discuss any items during the specific time allocated for them. Various items of business are discussed at the meetings, including Planning Applications.

The results of the 2019 election nomination process have been published.  These results can be viewed on the Documents section, under Other Documents.
